“Dance to Change the World”

One of my forms of academic procrastination lies in a series of oral lectures from a batch of eclectic and various scholars from every inch of the globe; Ted Talks is an annual forum that features speeches and lectures, ranging from Malcolm Gladwell to Eva Vertes. I was turned onto Ted about a year ago, and since then, my mind has been expanded and my soul inspired by each individual’s story.
Today that inspiration comes from Mallika Sarabhai, a self described dancer, actor, and activist, who has become one of the most influential females in India. After stumbling upon her 16 minute lecture regarding social justice, I am moved by her work for community outreach, and inspired that she emphasizes the importance of the arts as a medium for social responsibility.
“To the planners, the governments, the strategists, you have treated the arts as the cherry on the cake, it needs to be the yeast.” -Mallika Sarabhai, (13:30)
Let’s just say, this woman may have just showed me a new career path…
